New Web Site or Web Site Makeover

Depending on your requirements, your site will be implemented as a “basic html” site or as a WordPress site.  The main difference you will see is that WordPress allows you to manage your own content and have a blog, all within the same site.  Behind the scenes, WordPress is also different because it runs on a database.  To learn more, check out our WordPress FAQ page.  Both types of sites are developed using a template or theme, to ensure a consistent look from page to page.

What to Expect

  • First, we will send you some questions to help us understand your requirements, both short-term and long-term. Then we figure out the cost for the site.  Sometimes, multiple phases will be identified.
  • Once we reach an agreement on the work to be delivered, we will request a down payment.
  • If you already have a web site, we may take over any maintenance on the site to become familiar with the content and ensure a smooth transition.
  • Bluehost Web HostingWe may also ask that you change web hosts, as some are easier to work with than others. For web hosting, we like Bluehost (www.bluehost.com) for their reasonable rates, high-quality customer service and excellent developer tools.  Disclosure: Bluehost may compensate us for referrals.
  • Design and development is an iterative process. Based on your requirements, a test site will be developed for you to review. If it’s a WordPress site, you’ll have a chance to see what it’s like to maintain the site yourself.  One hour of hands-on user training via telephone is included for WordPress sites.
  • Once everything looks good, we will go through a check list of your requirements as well as some technical things, and the site will go live.

How much will it cost?

Pricing for a very basic site begins at $700.  Depending on the complexity, level of customization and quantity of content, sites can range from $1000 to $3000.

Once the site is up and running, the fee for ongoing support is $40 per hour.  We can usually complete simple updates within two business days (Monday – Friday). WordPress software has occasional updates that need to be installed and that is done as part of ongoing support work.

WordPress User Training

WordPress page updates and blog posts are done through screens that are meant to be “user friendly”.  For the most part, they are easy to use – however, it helps to have someone guide you through the first time.  We provide tips and techniques to our clients, based on “lessons learned”.  A few phone sessions with us can be a time-saver for you.  We are also available to help with more advanced features, depending on your needs.
